Cosford 2009

We have been approached by The BBC by one their researchers if we know of a member who was involved with Spitfires during the War either building, ferrying them to a RAF base or even if we had parents concerned with doing this work. They are making a program about Spitfires to presented by James May who is a co-presenter of Top Gear and other programs. They will be holding an event at Cosford sometime in the year and we are invited to attend. The details will be posted on this site and in your newsletter when the details become available

Battle of Britain Parade

It is hoped that we will attend this years Battle of Britain Parade as RAF Cosford as we did last year this will be in September further deatils will be given nearer to the time of this meeting.

Pat Honey has received this letter from the retiring CO Wing Commander Neil Gammon. Jim Paterson thought you would like to see the text of the letter. Here it is:

It was lovely to see yourself, Percy, Jim and John across at the RAF Museum on this cold February morning, so please thank everyone for making the effort to get out relatively early. May I thank you most sincerely for the kindness that you have shown in presenting me with the original, framed graphic. It is such a personal memento of my time at Cosford and I will take great care of it I can assure you. I have thoroughly enjoyed my relationship with the National Service (Royal Air Force) Association over the past couple of years and been pleased to see it go from strength to strength. Long may that continue5!

You have certainly achieved a coup in securing the services of Air Chief Marshal Sir Chris Moran, as he will then be, to be your Reviewing Officer in June at the annual parade. I am certain that it will be an outstanding event, assuming the weather behaves itself and you can be assured of Cosford's support and cooperation in the build up to it. In that vein, I shall make certain that my successor Air Commodore Chris Green, is briefed fully about the Association and in turn you will be provided with his biographical details in due course.

As I said, I shall be back here from time to time and will maintain my Royal Air Forces Association links when I move permanently to Lincolnshire so I am sure that our paths will cross from time to time. Meanwhile, please accept my best wishes for you personally and for the Association. I shall watch your progress from afar over the coming years.
